Our club participated in the Celebration of Champions relay race for kids going through cancer treatments. We were asked to run with three kids over the course of the 3 hour event. Arah and Dan's family ran with a 5 year old going through brain cancer treatments. His name is Yair and was a delightful kid. Then we ran with Max a high school senior with luekemia, Third child Lupita, is struggling with cancer, all three ran fast and made Dan look weak and slow. Rady's Children's Hospital is great and we love supporting them. |
Thanksgiving AssistanceIt's hard to believe that not everyone has the means to enjoy a Thanksgiving holiday. This year, we worked with Solutions for Change (whose mission it is to solve family homelessness, one family, one community at a time) by providing all the fixings for a dinner. We made gift boxes filled with potatoes, dressing, vegetables, gravy and gift cards for a turkey. Thanksgiving is extra special when you can be thankful for the gift of sharing. Just sayin! ![]() ![]() |
Parade is ON!Big news that makes us super excited and happy. But, where to start? First off, we are holding the 56th Poway parade on Sept. 11, beginning at 9 a.m. Even bigger than that is we are thrilled to tell you we have the title sponsor to the Palomar Health Presents the Poway Rotary Parade. Thank you so much Palomar Health, your kind and generous donation makes it possible to begin planning this big and expensive event. What Happens at Dark O'ClockThis morning we were up and at 'em at dark o'clock to participate in a virtual walk for World Polio Day. Rotarians in our district are encouraged to walk together this week in support of ending polio. Who is brave enough to walk at 6:30 a.m. when it is 57 degrees outside? Well just a handful of us and one early rising dog. President Dave walked at Big Bear Lake and literally phoned in his walk to Past President Karen, Kristin, Don (joined with his granddog, Red), and Melanie who met at Miramar Lake. ![]() |
Thanks for your Blood! In September we were already thinking of Halloween when we channeled vampires and asked our members and the public to give us their blood. Well, not really. We did ask for volunteers to join us at our first ever blood drive held in conjunction with the San Diego Blood Bank. Wow, did our generous friends, members and the public respond. We filled all the available spots. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Clean-up DayWe were up to our necks in junk April 14 when we participated in the 2018 Clean up Scripps Ranch Day hosted by the Scripps Ranch Civic Association and Windemere Realty. There was a lot of heavy lifting, stacking, and tossing of items as some of our members helped residents move junks from cars and into dumpsters. The community did a tremendous job removing debris and no longer useable items from their homes and yards and we were able to fill three large dumpsters. |
Quote of the Week - Who Said It?
We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.

Thought for the Week - Who Said It?
An optimist is the human personification of spring.
